“Sleeping Palms” began from an inspiring experience performing at the TED conference in Long Beach, CA in Feb. 2009. The conference brings together many brilliant minds from all over the world to share ideas, innovations, and technologies with the hopes of helping others. For me, this concept seems to have great relevance for our national situation today.
With loss facing us at every turn of a page or a channel or a chat with the boss, will it require individuals to hold on tight to their loved ones and others in their community to pull through these rough times? Maybe… we can take advantage of this time to slow down and listen better to one another. Make less, more. The work “Sleeping Palms” begins with a group of individuals who may or may not be familiar with each other. I am interested in what would happen if we reached out to our neighbors and those we come in contact with in our daily lives. Could we form stronger communities? What happens when a community crumbles? To the studio to find out…
